Fantastic concert in Lavenham Church last night, Sunday 30th. We filled the church practically with the orchestra including our extra large percussion section but we did manage to squeeze in a wonderfully appreciative audience for the evening. This was seriously complicated music which was certainly a challenge but with some great players that came in on the day we think that our enthusiasm plus that of our conductor, Matt Amdrews, created something wonderful.
Serious shout outs to our soloist, Jill Morton. who despite everything Suffolk Highways put in her way did manage to get to us. Beautiful playing and real commitment to the programme, she was clearly enjoying and so were we. Another shout out to our clarinettist, Clare Calder - this was a demanding evening for her, from the opening solos in both the Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue and the Marquez Danzon No. 2 to the sprinkling of solos throughout both the Copland pieces, great playing. Our seriously good percussion section gets a great shout out - they only had the afternoon rehearsal and then it was the performance and boy did they nail it.
And a final shout out to Painters Cafe in the Angel Sudbury who provided the orchestra teas. Seriously good food.
