Summer concert in Sudbury Arts Center on Sunday 29th June Our next concert - Sunday March 30 in Lavenham Church Our chairman, David Ellis, retires

Sudbury Symphony Orchestra has been making music for over 20 years and goes from strength to strength. Based in the market town of Sudbury in Suffolk we are an enthusiastic amateur orchestra performing music ranging from Haydn and Mozart to Shostakovich and Copland. We have players from Sudbury itself, the nearby villages, Colchester, Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich and even Newmarket.

For string players, we believe that if you are at least Grade 5 standard then you will find playing in the orchestra challenging but very enjoyable. If you are not quite at Grade 5 standard but are keen to take your playing up a level, then we can help you get the skills and experience you need to really enjoy playing in the orchestra. For wind players we normally ask for a minimum of Grade 6 and some orchestral experience.  Currently we have specific vacanices for violas and french horns but we always welcome new string players so do please get in contact if you are interested in joining our orchestra.

JOINING THE ORCHESTRA

If you are interested in joining us as a player, then do call us on 07802 793768. String and lower brass players are always welcome. For woodwind, you may have to go on a waiting list but we will contact you if one of our regular players is not available so you can come and have a taster.

WARM WELCOME TO ALL NEW PLAYERS

We take special care of all new players so they feel welcome from the start. We introduce them to our conductor and our leader and to the people they will be playing with. We make sure that at rehearsals people come and introduce themselves so you quickly make friends and become part of the team.

HELPING RETURNING STRING PLAYERS

Maybe you stopped playing a few years ago and want to take up playing again. Or maybe you just need a little help getting around all the music. Either way our leader provides extra sessions for our string sections and to individual players to give

AN ORCHESTRA FOR ALL AGES

We have players ranging in age from young players gaining orchestral experience before auditioning for music college through to those who retired many years ago. They, and all ages in between, are all welcome.

COME AND PLAY AT A REHEARSAL AS A TASTER

If you are a string or lower brass player, then you are always welcome to come and join us for a rehearsal as a taster. Just call us on 07802 793768 to check details. For more details of our rehearsals please go to our rehearsal page.
