Sudbury Symphony Orchestra is having its next workshop on Sunday 20 October in Long Melford Village Hall when we are tackling Lars-Erik Larsson's Third Symphony which is a really interesting piece (you can listen to it on youtube here).
This symphony is rarely played as the music has only recently been published (despite the work being composed in the 1940s) but we are sure it will soon be played much more in the UK as people get more familiar with the work and once the music is made more available. Our conductor, Matt Andrews, recently performed it with another orchestra and he is a real convert to it.
Doors open at 9:30 am for a 10 am start and we will finish by about quarter to 5 at the latest. We will provide refreshments but do please either bring your own lunch or use the many pubs and cafes in Long Melford. And if anyone feels inspired to bake a cake or two for the day then please do so.
The Village Hall (also called the Memorial Hall) is in the middle of Long Melford, go down the High Street to The Bull and at the cross roads where Bull Lane crosses the High Street, turn away from The Bull. There is ample parking and nice fields to one side of the village hall. Postcode is CO10 9JQ.
Interested? Get in touch with Hilary here. We love new strings to join us for the day. To get the best out of the day we suggest you need to be a competent orchestral music sight reader - but don't think you need to play every note - but it always helps to know where you are on the page!
