Cancellation of Sudbury Symphony Orchestra Concert on Sunday 29th March
It is with great regret that we have to announce that the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra concert on 29th March has been cancelled in order to help reduce the spread of corona virus. The decision was, as you appreciate, not taken lightly and took into account that audience and orchestra members all need to be protected from the virus and that government advice clearly indicates that we should reduce social contact where possible.
Everyone in the orchestra is really sad that we have had to do this as playing to an audience is what we like doing most. We hope though that you will be able to come to our next concert, on Sunday June 28th , where we currently plan to play Hummel’s Oboe Concerto with an extremely talented young oboe player, Matt Willsmore. We will also be playing Beethoven’s 5th Symphony so this will be a concert to raise the spirits after some very difficult times. But it is always possible that the corona virus may force us to change the planned programme. I will email you nearer the time with more details on this concert.
If you have already purchased ticket(s) for the now cancelled 29 March 2020 concert then you can either request a refund or you can exchange your March ticket(s) for tickets to our June 29 concert. Please contact us if you would like a ticket refund or exchange, either by email on email@example.com or on 07802 793768. Tickets for the June concert will be available to be sent out from the beginning of June. Clearly there is a possibility that the coronavirus epidemic will force the cancellation of our June concert. In this unfortunate event we will again refund or exchange tickets where requested.
For orchestra members all rehearsals from 19th March until 2nd April are cancelled. We will be collecting music at Woodhall Primary School (the normal rehearsal venue) on 19th March from 7:30 pm until 8 pm. If you are unable to return your music during this period please contact Hilary for alternative ways.
Next concert dates
Our next concerts will be Sunday 28 June 2020, 29 November 2020 and 28 March 2021. Do please mark these in your diary, and you can always find them on our website here.
As a small amateur orchestra you will appreciate that the cancellation of any concert is not taken lightly and that it causes us considerable financial loss. We also appreciate though that for many people this coronavirus epidemic will cause grave illness and that the epidemic will result in serious and potentially long term financial hardship for a great many people. For all of them we hope that as a community we can stand together and work this through.
Do keep safe and we hope to see you soon.
