So - all the news of an event that never was. We were all set to have a workshop in Sudbury Arts Centre on Sunday January 28 to test out the new venue and have a great day playing Sibelius Symphony no. 1. All the players were lined up, the music arrived from the publishers coming all the way from Germany. What could possibly go wrong? Well it took the new venue quite some time to work out the catering costs, all we wanted was to provide cups of tea or coffee to participants - maybe just three over the course of the workshop. For lunch we would go to one of the many cafes and restaurants in the town.
Turns out it would have cost about £240 (£200 plus VAT) for the teas and coffees which on top of the £480 (£400 plus VAT) for the hire cost was just so over the top we had to cancel. We could just about stomach the hire cost on the basis that it was a one off to test the venue but £720 for the day!. Compared to £150 in other local venues. It was never going to happen.
So huge apologies to everyone who had hoped to come - but we do have a replacement date - 12 May in Long Melford Village Hall. See you all there!
