Our last concert at the end of June was in Sudbury Arts Centre and Michael Foyle, the fantastic violinst who played for us in March 2024, returned to play this time Mendelssohn's Violin concerto in E minor - a really great piece for the violin and deservedly popular among both audiences and players. We had Beethoven's Leonora No. 3 overture, to start the evening - this was his third version of an overture to his Fidelio opera and its one that has stood the test of time and is now played as a concert piece in its own right. We finished the evening with Schubert's Unfinished Symphony, his 8th published symphony although sometimes called his 7th depending on which order the publisher issued them. Whichever it is, its a delightful work full of beautiful melodies and you just so wish he had actually got round to finishing it. But it was not to be, so it was just the two finished movements of the work that we performed.
Despite the heat, it was a fantastic concert with a full venue. Michael put on an amazing display of virtuosity which we and the audience were blown away by.
