Finlay has been playing the saxophone for twelve years initially studying with David Fitzgerald in Norwich under who's tutelage he won the Norfolk Young Musician competition 2013. He was a member of both the County Symphonic Wind Band and Norwich Student Jazz Orchestra performing at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Garden Party and as a soloist during a tour of Belgium. Finn joined the Aldeburgh Young Musician programme for three years and played at their annual Proms with the Alex Wilson Band and She'Koyokh. He also thoroughly enjoyed performing in the opening number on The Water Front Stage at the Latitude Festival. Finn attended the Junior Royal Academy of Music learning about and improving his jazz skills. Lots of opportunities grew from this experience including playing at Ronnie Scott's. Finlay has been studying for his degree at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Christian Forshaw and John Harle. Over the last three years he has been involved in numerous concerts in The Barbican including performing Louis Andriessen's 'Hout' and Philip Glass's 'Glassworks', both of which were recorded for and broadcast on Radio Three.
Most recently Finn was invited to play with The Oxford University's 'Donut Kings Big Band' touring Bangladesh with them. He has worked in several East Anglian and London shows and been part of a saxophone recital in Ely Cathedral. Finn is looking forward to being a member of a cruise ship's band travelling around the Baltic this summer and performing with John Harle as part of a saxophone quartet in 'Plush Festival'.
