Our last workshop was on Sunday 19 October 2025 in Sudbury Arts Centre when we tackled Shostakovich's 5th Symphony - for the second time as we liked it so much back in October 2016! An epic piece so we have booked ourselves a larger venue to match the huge sounds we will be making.
This symphony is not played so often by amateur orchestraa as needs a big orchestra, a big venue and it is quite tricky in places so a workshop is a great opportunity to experience the piece.
We had a great day, quite hard work concentrating throughout but in a big space and with a big orchestra which included a harp, two percussionists, lower brass, E flat clarinet, piccolo player and a contrabassoon player we made some great sounds.
As ever doors opened at 9:30 am for a 10 am start and we finished by about quarter to 5 at the latest. The venue provide teas, coffees and juice and we brought our own lunch or used the many pubs and cafes in Sudbury open on a Sunday.
Interested in a future workshop? Get in touch with Hilary here. We love new strings to join us for the day. To get the best out of the day we suggest you need to be a competent orchestral music sight reader - but don't think you need to play every note - but it always helps to know where you are on the page!
